Q. How does a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) work? What does it mean to me?

A. A continuing care retirement community offers residents a range of senior services, and residents may move back and forth between services within the community. The goal is to serve you in your home for as long as possible, and bring services to you as needed to help you stay living independently. Because many services are available on campus and you are part of the system, you have easy access to the services you need and someone to help coordinate them for you. Residents at Vincentian Villa have access to a knowledgeable and trusted staff who can answer questions you may have about your changing needs, and help you pursue other services or levels of care if the need arises. We take the worry out of your future and relieve some of the burden of decisions that will need to be made as you age.

Q. Do I have to be retired to live in your community?

A. Residents of Vincentian Villa need to be age 55 or older. You do not have to be retired to live in the community.

Q. What is an entrance fee and how does it work?

A. Because Vincentian Villa is part of Vincentian Home’s continuing care retirement community, residents have priority access to an array of additional senior services including Vincentian Personal Care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation, Alzheimer’s and dementia care, and the outpatient rehabilitation center for occupational therapy, physical therapy or speech therapy.

The entrance fee is a one time payment that is 90% refundable when you leave Vincentian Villa for any reason. The 10% is used by Vincentian Villa as an investment in the community’s operating expenses and the Vincentian Home continuum of care.

One half (50%) of the entrance fee is due 30 days before your expected date of occupancy. The remaining 50% of the entrance fee is due when you move in to Vincentian Villa.

Q. Does the entrance fee cover both of us?

A. Yes, the entrance fee is the same for both single and double occupancy.

Q. What does the monthly fee include, and NOT include?

A. Vincentian Villa offers maintenance free living in a safe community environment. Your monthly fee includes utilities, maintenance, common property taxes, your personal emergency response system, and a variety of amenities. Visit our amenities page for a full list of amenities included and not included with your monthly fee.

The monthly fee does NOT cover telephone, cable, Internet, or personal property insurance. Housekeeping service is available for an additional fee.

Q. Are gas, electric and utilities covered?

A. The home is all electric (no gas). Therefore, heating, airconditioning, cooking and hot water are covered in the montly fee. All utilities are covered except for telephone, cable, and personal Internet; all homes are wired for Verizon FIOS.

Q. What happens to the monthly fee if one resident leaves or moves to another level of care?

A. If one person moves to another level of care and one person stays in the unit, monthly fee drops to the single occupancy rate. If that person moves back in, the rate goes to double occupancy.

The 90% refundable entrance fee is not returned until the unit is vacated. If there are two people living in the unit and one person moves, the entrance fee remains with Vincentian Villa until the person still living in the unit also vacates.

Q. What happens if I have to go to a nursing home?

A. As a Villa resident, if you require the services of a nursing home or personal care you have priority access as long as you meet the criteria for admission. The fee for such services is not included in your monthly rent. Any/all insurance benefits will be applied as per your individual coverage.

If this move is temporary (for example to receive rehabilitation services to recover from a fall or injury), you will continue to pay your monthly fee and your home will be waiting for your return. This would be no different than if you resided in any other community.

Q. What happens if I run out of money and can no longer afford my monthly fee?

A. Part of Vincentian Villa’s application process includes financial information which is run through a computerized analysis based on actuarial formulas to determine your ability to afford services long-term. It is not our policy to terminate your Residence and Care Agreement solely because of inability to pay your monthly fee and/or other charges as long as you qualify for and we are capable of providing financial assistance. It is your responsibility to look to all available sources of financial assistance before requesting financial assistance from us. Our ability to provide financial assistance is contingent upon many factors and there is no guarantee that such assistance could or would continue indefinitely or for any specific length of time. We shall deduct amounts necessary to fulfill all of your financial obligations to us from any remaining balance of the refundable portion of your entrance fee.

Q. Will my monthly fee increase each year?

A. Because of inflation, there is always a chance that monthly fees may be adjusted. We will provide a thirty (30) day written notice of any changes.

Q. Do you have a system in place for emergencies?

A. Yes, we offer a few levels of security measures. Each home is equipped with an emergency response system. It is a typical in-home system in which a security company is notified through use of your personal device. The security company then contacts your designated person, a Vincentian Villa staff member, and 911 emergency responders if needed.

Vincentian Villa staff also offer a daily safety check for residents in which a Villa staff member will contact you daily through a designated non-intrusive method. This service is optional to residents.

Q. Do you allow pets?

A. Vincentian Villa recognizes that pets can be therapeutic for those who enjoy, own, and care for them. One pet is permitted per household. Permitted pets include a dog under 40 pounds, cat, caged bird, caged hamster or gerbil, or fish. There are additional fees for pet owners and pets must be registered with Vincentian Villa. Residents receive the detailed pet ownership policies prior to move in. Rules are in place so that we can safely and respectfully allow pets within our community.

Q. What is the process to sign up?

A. 1. Contact us for information either via email or by calling 412-364-6592. We invite you to visit and take a tour of Vincentian Villa or attend one of our upcoming open houses or events. A private tour is a good way to start the process because it allows you to ask individual questions and get the information important to you in making your decision.

2. At the point in which you are seriously considering Vincentian Villa as your future home, you will be asked to complete an application. The application determines whether you are an appropriate candidate for Vincentian Villa. At this time a non-refundable fee of $150 is due.

3. Upon approval of your application, you can select your unit. At this time you will be asked for a check in the amount of $1,000 as a reservation fee. This fee is subtracted from the first half of your entrance fee. Also, we will together determine your expected occupancy date. Once you select your unit you will wait for notification that it is available.

4. Thirty (30) days prior to your expected occupancy date you will pay the first half (50%) of your entrance fee minus the $1,000 reservation fee.

5. The remainder of the entrance fee is due upon move-in, as is a prorated portion of that month’s rent.
